What kinda camera ya use?
This is the question. Well I’ll tell you, I use the one in my hand. Ok I know, not so fast, I use a diverse handful of cameras and methods to make my images, some large and some small. I will start with my digital cameras I shoot with a Canon 5Ds with either a 50/1.4, a 24-70/2.8 L lens 180mm Macro lens, or sometimes a motley handful of adapted manual lenses. I also have Lumix LX7 and a phone for my pocket, My manual lens collection includes a Contax 50/1.4, a Contax 80-200/4, a Zeiss Tessar lens in an Icarex mount and a few Pentax screw mount and Nikon manual lenses. My most often used film cameras are a Contax 167mt, a Canon EOS 1n and a Nikon f3 that looks like hell. A few others who see regular service are my Yashica Mat-124G and a Pentax 645 with several lenses, 75mm, 120 macro, 45mm. If I need or want to really get the detail, I use a Busch Pressman Model D or a Cambo 45SC for 4x5 film or a beat up old Deardorff V8 for shooting 8x10. The film then gets scanned with an Epson V850, a Nikon Coolscan 8000, or a Kodak flatbed scanner(not mine) or a digital copy set-up (not mine). I’m somewhat eclectic in my approach as you might have guessed I use what i am in the mood for or what suits the situation best. If portability and speed are essential, i go with a small camera. There is no substitute for slowing down and getting a big sheet of film exposed to get that range and detail if you have the time and space. The results are often amazing but the challenge is quite formidable. Those are my cameras thanks for reading!
